DIMAPUR — The Directorate of School Education (DoSE) has informed that the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, provides educational opportunities through open and distance learning to learners seeking to pursue and complete their education under its mission of "Education for All."
According to the department, NIOS gives special focus to girls and women, rural youth, working individuals, SC/ST communities, Below Poverty Line (BPL) categories, sportspersons, differently-abled learners, and other disadvantaged groups.
The NIOS conducts public examinations for secondary (Class X) and senior secondary (Class XII) levels twice a year, in April and October.
In addition, it offers On Demand Examinations (ODEs) for both secondary and senior secondary courses in two blocks during the academic year — from December to March and from June to September.
The directorate stated that, under the provisions governing admissions under Stream-2 of NIOS, unsuccessful candidates of the secondary and senior secondary examinations are eligible to appear in the ensuing public examinations scheduled to be held in October/November 2026.
Such learners may also avail the opportunity to appear in the On Demand Examinations under Stream-3 (Class X) and Stream-4 (Class XII), which are scheduled to be conducted from June to September 2026.
Detailed procedures for admission, prescribed fee structures and other relevant guidelines are available on the NIOS admission portal at https://sdmis.nios.ac.in.
The directorate advised interested students, parents and guardians to make use of these opportunities to continue their education by seeking admission to the appropriate courses.
