Dimapur, Dec. 14: An organisation in Peren has appealed to civil organisations “not to play any politics with our rice” and that “we do not know who is Tinku or Nirmal Sharma, but we want rice meant for our district at the right time with full quantity and quality.”
The group, Zeliang People’s Organisation, Nagaland, (ZPO), issued a press release on Wednesday.
“Any groups or organisations is not above law or people, therefore, the affected people urge upon the leader of those organisations involved in this issue not to play any politics with our rice to gain cheap popularity or any other benefits, since this actions of yours is a violation of Law and also depriving the poor people of their rights,” the ZPO stated.
“For instances, we do not know who is Tinku or Nirmal Sharma, but we want rice meant for our district at the right time with full quantity and quality,” it explained.
According to the ZPO, the “rice in question is to be distributed to Peren and other interior districts.” It claimed that the public living below the poverty line are “quite happy and contended with the passing of national food security Act, and since its inception the godown in the rural areas are packed with the supply of rice above its capacity, and henceforth, there has been no complaint from any quarters of public in the system.”
If their quota of rice ‘does not come as per the entitlement,’ the organisation stated, “We shall be glad to take up the issue with the concerned and competent authorities.”
The ZPO also claimed to “appreciate certain groups or organisations working for the cause of people” but, it stated, ‘it does not mean that they take the law into their own hands.’
“Every district or tribe has their own organisations to look after to the welfare of their own people or district. Therefore, it is urged of the organization based at Dimapur not to infringe upon others than their district, as the rice in question now which is to be distributed to the rural poor in this festive season has been held up because of the illegal raid and commotion created by the so called ACAUT and concerned citizens of Dimapur after they have had their filled of quota.”
