Having felt the need to bridge the expanding gap between human population and nature among the security forces when deployed in the green wilderness of North Eastern states, Assam Rifles Training Centre and School, Dimapur has launched a nature club christened as Dolong (Bridge) Nature Club on January 19 as a novel step to explore this dimension of responsibility towards nature. As the name defines bridge in Nagamese, the Dolong Nature Club will function as a bridge between the nature and families of the Assam Rifles. The club also plans to conduct various activities for the children of Assam Rifles personnel to develop an interest towards wild life studies and bird watching, a dfence release stated.
On January 19, a tour comprising trekking, bird watching, photography and written quiz competition was flagged off from 3rd Mile ,Dimapur for Sukhovi Forest by Brigadier K Narayanan, Commandant, Assam Rifles Training Centre and School.
The Commandant informed the participants regarding the need to save migratory birds like Amur Falcon which visits the state during winter and advised the participants to treat them as a guest to the beautiful hills of Nagaland.
A total of 84 students with 8 teachers of Assam Rifles High School and 25 personnel of Assam Rifles took part in the tour.
The participants trekked through the jungle of Sukhovi to understand and witness the beauty and freshness of wilderness and various birds of beautiful colors added an excitement to the trekkers. Young children displayed their skills in nature photography, the release said.
The tour concluded with a written quiz competition and prizes were awarded to top three winners. The participants expressed their eagerness and interests in such tours and activities in future.
The club is also looking forward to expand the area of visit in the next tour with expert’s guidance, the release added.
