DIMAPUR — Legendary singer-songwriter and country music veteran Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80.
In her seven-decade career, the ‘Coat of Many Colors’ singer won numerous awards including 10 Grammys, sold more than 100 million records worldwide, and wrote in excess of 3,000 songs.
The passing of the singer was announced in a video uploaded on her insta handle @dollyparton by her nephew Bryan Seaver with a caption that read: A message from the family of Dolly Parton.
Seaver in the video says:“My name is Bryan Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next. This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now.”
He went on to say, “Dolly opened doors not just for me, but for her entire family to reach potential we didn’t even know was possible...”
Some of her iconic hits and favourite classics include:
"Jolene" (1973)
"I Will Always Love You" (1974)
"9 to 5" (1980)
“Coat of Many Colors" (1971)
"Here You Come Again" (1977)
"Islands in the Stream" (1983)
