Dimapur, March 19 (EMN): Advocate of Guwahati High Court, Akito Zhimomi, has reminded the doctors not to lose their humanity when treating the patients.
He stated this during the 18th conference and annual general meeting of the Indian Dental Association Nagaland State Branch (IDANSB) inaugural programme at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima, on Saturday.
“More than the medicine you give or the diagnosis that you make to a patient, what is more important is patience, compassion and your humanity towards the patient,” he said. He questioned if it would be good enough to be satisfied with the good health in their community and to ignore ailments or illnesses in a community that is not related to them.
He pointed out that when common people suffer, the whole society would suffer. Stating that the society at large needed to grow, he called upon the doctors to ensure the Naga society flourish as a whole.
He also reminded the Supreme Court’s order which stated that all patients are entitled to receive treatment by those who are entrusted with preserving the health of the community and that every doctor, be it from private or government hospital, has the obligation to extend his services for protecting life.
“It is the duty of every doctor in whatever hospital you are serving to attend to medical legal cases,” he said.
Dr. James Theyiephrezo, director (dental) of Health and Family Welfare department, informed that there are around 240 registered dentists under IDANSB. He also advised the doctors to win the confidence of the patients saying, “To be a good dental surgeon, you need to be a good human being first.”
IDANSB president, Kaketo H Yepthomi, delivered the presidential address, while a special performance was presented by Kekhrie Ringa during the programme. Dr. Deepak Mehta and Dr. Ashwini Bhalerao were the guest speakers of the conference.
