Dimapur, June 20: The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has set uniform fees for tuitions and home tuitions after receiving complaints from parents at the exorbitant and unregulated tuition fees that have been a trend.
The need for uniform fees was felt as it was found that the fees vary. After consultations with parents and a meeting with tribal units on May 31, uniform fees were set, the DNSU informed during a press conference on June 20 at the DNSU’s office in Dimapur.
The teachers, DNSU officials maintained, had been charging INR 800 to INR 1000 which was ‘too much.’ Some schools took in around 30-40 students which the union said was not helping the students.
According to the fees set by the DNSU, fees for the mathematics, science and Hindi subjects will be INR 500 per subject for class 9-10. For class A-8, the fees will be charged for all combined subjects ie. INR 500.

Hostels
The students’ union has cautioned the proprietors of Dimapur-based hostels to get a No Objection Certificate from the DNSU’s office within two months from the date of this publication, after which the DNSU officials will check on the hostels.
The union’s leaders maintained that 90% of hostels in Dimapur were functioning without proper registration, failing to comply with the rules set by the authorities. It warned the hostels to run separate hostels for boys and girls too and make it mandatory for hostels to keep a warden.
The DNSU has advised proprietors to consider the mess fees for holiday period. It asked the hostels to provide proper facilities and infrastructure. If the hostels fail to comply with the department’s set rules, the matter will be handed over to the police and authorities in concern, the DNSU cautioned.
