The DNSU has urged authorities to expedite the investigation into the alleged fraudulent indigenous certificate obtained by Nirmal Jain and illegal land transactions.
DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has expressed serious concern over the delay in the investigation following the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Nirmal Jain in connection with the alleged fraudulent procurement of an Indigenous Certificate (IC) and subsequent illegal land transactions.
In a statement, the union acknowledged the cancellation of the fraudulently obtained indigenous certificate as "a significant step toward justice," but urged law enforcement agencies and the district administration to expedite the investigation and accord the case the "utmost priority."
"Any delay in the process undermines public trust and weakens the rule of law, particularly in matters that directly affect the rights and identity of the indigenous people," the DNSU stated.
The union said the matter was not merely an isolated incident but reflected broader concerns over illegal land transactions and the misuse of government mechanisms.
It stressed that a thorough and time-bound investigation was necessary to uncover the full extent of the alleged fraud and ensure that all those involved are held accountable under the law.
The DNSU also called on the authorities to take immediate legal action against Girdharlal Sharma and his associates, alleging that they had purchased land without possessing valid indigenous certificates.
"Such transactions are in direct violation of existing laws and pose a serious threat to the protection of indigenous land rights," the union asserted.

While reaffirming its respect for non-local individuals who reside and work peacefully in Nagaland, the DNSU maintained that it "will not tolerate any activities that compromise the legal and constitutional safeguards meant for the indigenous population."
The union further appealed to political leaders, administrative officials and law enforcement agencies to act impartially and without external influence.
"Upholding justice in this matter will serve as a strong precedent and reaffirm the government's commitment to safeguarding the rights and identity of the Naga people," it said.
Reiterating its commitment to pursuing the issue through lawful and democratic means, the DNSU said it would continue to closely monitor the developments. It also urged members of the public to come forward with credible information on similar cases to facilitate appropriate legal action.
