Dimapur, Nov. 23: The Dimapur Langpangkong Senso Telongjem (DLST) celebrated its fiftieth year of existence at Senden Reju (ISBT) on Nov. 23 in Dimapur on the theme “Telongjem Ajanga Terenlok” (Ao for ‘progress through unity’.
Addressing the gathering that consisted of members from all villages under Langpangkong range in Mokokchung district, Minister of Public Works Department (PWD) Tongpang Ozukum spoke about the geographical advantages that the range is blessed with. He said that a jubilee is not only for celebrations but also a time for forgiveness, to recollect the past and to make plans for the future. Ozukum also released the jubilee souvenir during the programme.
Advisor, Industries and Commerce, Imnatiba Jamir while exhorting the gathering, stressed on the topic why unions were formed and expressed that he personally feels that unions are formed so as to cultivate the values of living and loving the cultural ethnicity and preserving the rich heritage of the forefathers.
The main speaker of the programme, Officer on Special duty (OSD) and (retired) addl. secretary, government of Nagaland, Koratemjen Ao stressed on how Langpangkong range, being strategically located and being the gateway of two districts viz. Longleng and Mokokchung, has huge potentials for economic development. He urged the people of the range to come up with viable plans for the economic prosperity of the villagers and the area.
Towards this end, Ao listed out two terms of reference i.e. to declare Langpangkong range as an economic zone, and secondly to control the formation of new unions to ensure long sustainable growth and create more opportunities without the help of the government.
MLA Amenba Yaden, during his short speech, mentioned that the jubilee should be a time to plan the future apart from just being a celebration of the past.
The DLST was established in the year 1968. Cultural dances and songs were presented by different groups. Representatives from the Langpangkong Tzukong
Mungdang, Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur, Langpangkong Senso Telongjem Kohima, Langpangkong Senso Telongjem Chumukedima and Langpangkong Senso Telongjem Medziphema joined in the jubilee celebration.
