Dimapur, Aug. 31 (EMN): Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) directed that all the pigs/swine to be slaughtered for human consumption should be performed only from the authorised modern slaughter house established by the council at Old Khatkhati Road, Burma Camp, with effect from September 1.
DMC notification issued by the administrator, Moa Sangtam, on August 31 stated that all the meat shops should avail trade license by following strict guidelines by DMC.
The guidelines were issued as per the directives of the Supreme Court relating to enforcement of slaughter house rules and prevention of cruelty to animals (Slaughter House Act).
The same was enforced upon during the coordination meeting dated August 24 held in its office premises on centralisation of pig slaughter.
The notification stated that all meat shops should be upgraded or modernised to provide safe healthy and hygienic meat to consumers. It further warned that heavy penalty and imprisonment would be initiated against anyone failing to comply with the notification.
Meanwhile, in pursuance to the meeting resolution held on August 24, DMC has revised the rate of pork. According to the revised rate, wholesale rate of pork has been fixed at INR 150 per kg and the dressed (retail sale) at INR 220 per kg.
Stating that the above prescribed rate is the maximum amount fixed by DMC, all butchers are directed to provide quality and hygienic meat to the customers. DMC further warned that appropriate action would be taken as per norms against anyone failing to comply with the order.
