A fifth road repaired by the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) was inaugurated on Tuesday at Chatteswari Manipur Colony in Dimapur town. Additional director of municipal affairs cell, Toshimanen was the chief guest of the event.
The road stretches to more than 600 feet. It was repaired by the DMC with funds accrued during the past 3 months from toll tax in the district.
During the inaugural program, Toshimanen said that some the most important needs of the public were proper drinking water, 24 hours uninterrupted water supply, and good roads. Congratulating the DMC representatives for the hard work the implemented, Toshimanen said that good roads were ‘very important as they provide good connectivity leading to good economic growth’.
He also highlighted various upcoming assignments under that newly formed ‘Director of Municipal Affairs’ (DMA) which was launched in April 1, 2015. He said that the cell plans to bring ‘drastic changes in the state through the municipalities’. Three municipal councils in the state namely Kohima, Dimapur, and Mokokchung and 16 town councils are being registered.
Toshimanen also said that the department sets to bring various developmental changes through the 23 registered wards and 74 recognized colonies in Dimapur alone.
Administrator of the DMC, H Atokhe Aye, said that the permission to collect the toll tax for three months starting January 2015 was with the purpose to ‘bringing developmental changes in Dimapur town area’. It has been extended till April ‘to witness further changes’ in Dimapur, he said.
He added that through the ongoing developmental projects, ‘80% flood control is being successfully implemented’.
