DIMAPUR — The proposed floor test in Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), scheduled for May 22 to decide the fate of chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi, has been cancelled after the no-confidence motion against him lost the required support.
According to an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dimapur on Thursday, six of the 12 councillors who had signed the no-confidence motion formally withdrew their support before the scheduled meeting. Following verification, the administration held that the withdrawal was voluntary.

With the number of supporting members reduced to six, the motion no longer fulfilled the requirement under Section 15(2) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, which mandates support from not less than one-half of the total elected members. The DMC has 23 elected members.
The cancellation comes a day after elected councillors of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) announced that they had reconciled their differences following the intervention of the party leadership and decided to withdraw the proposed trust vote against Yepthomi.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the councillors said there was “no need to carry out any trust vote” and that the authorities concerned had been informed accordingly.
The DC’s office has declared the no-confidence motion withdrawn and closed, with no further action to be taken in the matter.
