DIMAPUR — Councilor
of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and member of sanitation branch, Nzanbeni
Humtsoe, on Tuesday called upon the citizens of Dimapur to exercise civic sense
in public places especially on footbridges at Holy Cross junction and Deluxe
Point.
Humtsoe stated that the sanitation workers, during cleaning
of footbridges at Holy Cross junction and Deluxe Point, found them to have
become haven for drug users and vagrants and are being misused as sites for
garbage disposal and open urination.
She added that human wastes were found in numerous
locations, rendering the footbridges highly unsanitary and hazardous.
“This unsanitary condition has deterred commuters from using
these footbridges even during peak traffic hours, thereby posing significant
risks to public safety and urban mobility,” she said.
The councilor, on behalf of the DMC and sanitation branch,
has urged the public to exercise civic responsibility and refrain from engaging
in activities that could lead to the degradation of public infrastructure. She
also urged the public to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness and usability of
the footbridges for the benefit of all commuters.
She also requested the law enforcement authorities to
increase vigilance and take necessary actions to prevent unlawful activities
around the footbridges.
She further called upon the concerned department to promptly
undertake structural repairs of the footbridges by filling holes caused by
rusting and other safety hazards in order to restore them to a safe and
functional state.
While affirming DMC’s commitment to improving urban
infrastructure, she urged all to contribute to creating a cleaner and safer
environment for public use.
