Dimapur, July 2 (EMN): DDLSA: Focusing attention on a much neglected and often ignored segment of society, the Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDSA) in collaboration with Disabled People Organization, Dimapur (DPOD) held a day long orientation program at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Dimapur, on July 1 on the rights of the physically and mentally disabled people in the state.
Keynote address was delivered by K. Ela, Director of Prodigals Home.

Speaking at the program which was well attended by various stakeholders from all over the state, the provisions of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, were highlighted by Esther K. Aye.
Limasenla Longkumer shared on the provisions of the newly legislated Mental Healthcare Act, 2017.
In an interaction session ways and means of implementing legislations were discussed with the resource persons.
The program ended on a hopeful note that the state government would duly sensitise to the needs of the disabled and implement the provisions of the law in letter and spirit, stated the organisers.
MDLSA: Mon District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) conducted one-day seminar for Dobhasis (DBs) at DB’s Court Mon on July 1.
Speaking on rules and practices in the court, Chief Judicial Magistrateand Secretary MDLSA, Inalo Zhimomi, acknowledged the efforts of DBs for general public. He also exhorted them to spread the message and concept of legal aid and how one can avail legal aid for free.
District and Session Judge and Chairman, MDLSA Neiko Kanuo, spoke on the rules for administration of Justice and Police in Nagaland, 1937 and how the DBs derive their judicial powers from the said rules. He highlighted how the High Court and the Supreme Court had upheld the validity and correctness of the judgment passed by the DBs with regard to customary laws.
The chairman advised DBs to follow the rules and also cautioned that political assistant to DC is not t under court rules.
APP cum government pleader, Vito Chishi, spoke on the principle of natural justice, while head DB Mon also apprised about how customary court functions.
The programme was chaired by Para Legal Volunteer, Tingkai. Altogether 21 DBs from Mon attended the seminar.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Mezivolu T. Therieh, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary Kiphire District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) along with Panel Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers visited Legal Aid Clinic Kiusam and interacted with the resident PLVs on their roles and responsibilities. The KDLSA also distributed stationaries and legal literature.
