Wokha, March 5 (EMN): Elucidating that lack of unity is the best mechanism for a downfall of society, be it in religion or in any organisation, Nagaland deputy chief minister and in-charge of Home department, Y Patton, called the Lotha officers to come closer and work in unity with the elected legislators for all round development by keeping aside political, social and religious differences.
Patton stated this during the general conference of the Lotha Officers’ Association (LOA) held at Tiyi hall in Wokha town on the theme ‘Nzontsü tssoe Nzontsü Mmhon Soyingta’ (Together we work towards common good) on Saturday.
Pointing out that Lothas are one among various pioneers in formation of social platforms in Nagaland, Patton challenged the officers to uphold the history created by their predecessors. He mentioned that the Lotha community is currently blessed with 550 officers in the state and central services.
Terming the Lotha officers as mirrors of the community, Patton urged the officers to uphold its integrity through unity and continue to be an instrument of change among the Lotha society in particular and the Nagas in general.
Stating that Nagas are undergoing a ‘stage of confusion,’ which is characterised by lawlessness, advisor of Horticulture and Border Affairs and special guest, Mhathung Yanthan, called upon the officers to work with diligence and be ambassadors for change. While reminding that government servants/ officers are the icons of the people that represent the government and its department, he called upon the officers to live an exemplary life.
He also encouraged the officers to work for the progress of society so that they would not regret lapses on completion of their tenure in service. He has further attributed lack of respect and assuming pride for division among the people.
Meanwhile, the advisor of IT and Communication, Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Mmhunlumo Kikon, has sought healthy debate in order to build a just society. He has urged to shun selfishness in order to have a structured system and progressive society.
Kikon also stressed upon love and respecting one’s right to enable justice prevail in the land.
NPF legislator, Dr. Chumben Murry, stated that Lothas are on an epoch making journey in all sectors be it social, cultural and religion. In this regard, he has encouraged trained/ skilled labourers in all trades in the ‘Land of plenty.’
He stated that locals need to take up an upstream business rather than a static business and employ more locals into their business. He has called for collective initiatives to bring more windows of opportunity to the youngsters. Relating that Lothas have many things to do more, Yanthan has stressed on the need to ‘run the talk’ rather than ‘walk the talk.’
LOA president, Mhabemo Yanthan, while delivering the presidential address, has called to make use of information technology to shape society and share knowledge with the people.
Later in the afternoon session, Prof. T Zarenthung Ezung from the Nagaland University shared the role of public servants/ officers towards achieving the ‘common good.’
