Dimapur, Feb. 25 (EMN): A meeting to review security arrangements for the forthcoming elections to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly was conducted in Longleng district. The meeting discusses security and related matters for the district’s polling on Feb. 27.
The meeting was conducted in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner of the district on Feb. 25. The district election officer of Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam, president over the meeting, updates informed on Sun.
Sangtam, also the deputy commissioner of the district, spoke about restrictions or authorisations for persons to enter polling booths; safe custody of electronic voting machines and the Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail; movement and return plans of polling parties; role of presiding officers and sector magistrate etc. The meeting also saw discussions about the use of authorized mobile phones and about maintaining secrecy of voting.
The election officer has urged the polling personnel to use the service of the Doubashi who are ‘deployed to maintain law and order.’
A general observer of the assembly elections Dr. Raghav Langer spoke to the officials. He talked about the joint communication system and the control room the deputy commissioner’s office, compulsory contact numbers of sector magistrates and sector commanders and other team leaders; security arrangement both inside and outside polling booths etc. The officer also talked about what the updates called “challenge vote,” proxy voting; location of election booth and voters’ ‘facilitation’ booths; ‘sanitization’ of polling booths within 100 meters and about the role of micro observers, the updates informed.
Likewise, police observer Jalindar D Supekar briefed the officials about the overall security arrangements in place for the district.
The officials have urged the sector magistrates and other personnel engaged in election duty, and the security force to work as a team and ‘stay connected for timely intervention to normalize any crisis and situation,’ the updates stated.
Mokokchung: Parking restrictions on
The deputy commissioner of Mokokchung Sachin Jaiswal has informed that in view of the upcoming 13th assembly elections in Nagaland, there will be no parking zones in the following locations in Mokokchung town from Feb. 26 to the 27th: (1) From Imlong place to Imkongmeren Sports Complex, and from Imlong Place to BOC (AM Road), updates from the DPRO informed on Sun.
‘All preparations have been set’ for conducting the assembly elections on Feb. 27 to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Polling will be conducted in 226 polling stations for which adequate security measures have been made to enable the electors to exercise their franchise without fear, updates from the Mokokchung division of the Information and Public Relations department (DPRO) stated.
The superintendent of Mokokchung police Raguramarajan A said that a total of 31 companies of central armed police forces and 10 companies of the Nagaland police including Indian reserve Battalion have been requisitioned for poll duty in the district, the IPR informed. Out of the personnel are 28 companies that will be deployed for elections duty, it was informed. He said that 12 companies will be on duty as strike forces to deal with any eventuality especially in the sensitive areas of the district. The officer added that a company of the central armed police force has been marked for ‘strong room duty,’ the Mokokchung DPRO added.

Personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) are presently deployed in Nagaland for ensuring free, fair and smooth conduct of the Assembly Election 2018. BSF companies have been deployed in the remote and sensitive areas of Zunheboto, Kiphire, Phek and Kohima district of Nagaland, a press release from the security establishment informed on Sun.
Troops of the BSF are carrying out area domination exercises and patrolling; set up mobile vehicle check posts, besides patrolling at night etc., it was informed. The exercise is to ‘sanitize’ the entire area of deployment to ensure a conducive environment for smooth conduct of the elections, the establishment stated. The personnel are working to prevent any untoward incidents, check intimidation or coercion by “ANEs/UGs/miscreants,” according to the press release.
“Because of the alertness, active domination of the area and various preventive measures by the BSF troops, there has been no any untoward incident and peaceful environment has been created in these areas before conduct of polling,” the BSF stated.
Further, BSF troops will be deployed for the security of polling booths, electronic voting machines, polling staff, among others, on the day of the polling, the update from the security force stated.
‘BSF troops are ready to thwart any challenges / threats during pre-poll as well as on the day of the polling for ensuring free and fair assembly election 2018 in Nagaland,’ it added.
