Dimapur, April 21 (EMN): Government authorities and community groups across Nagaland on Saturday responded to the Nagaland government’s clarion to the broom and the shovel to ‘clean’ their respective locality as part of a state-wide sanitation initiative.
In Kohima district, the capital’s chief administration and municipal authorities led by the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) took to the streets in the “mass social work” in the entire municipality and, according to updates, villages in the district too.
According to the state’s information bulletin, the department of Information and Public Relations, the district administrations led in the community event.
In the capital, deputy commissioner of Kohima Rajesh Soundararajan along with the administrator of the Kohima Municipal Council Elizabeth Ngullie, and subdivision officer Moakumzuk Tzudir visited the wards and colonies in and around Kohima town. They ‘took first hand information on some important areas’ where drains have been the main issues during monsoon. The deputy commissioner and his team are said to have ‘taken note’ of the points of concern raised by ward authorities. The administration is said to have assured them measures in the interest of the public.
Personnel of the administration and the deputy commissioner’s office, staff of government offices and authorities and citizens from 19 wards including members of the capital’s business community took part in the mass cleaning work.
During the event, jungles were cleared and culverts and drains unclogged, while streets and public areas besides office compounds were cleaned.
The KMC, along with line departments including the 15th BRTF, besides individuals and contractors contributed dumpsters and excavators to remove garbage, the updates infromed.
Deputy Commissioner Soundararajan has expressed appreciation to all the government employees, wards and colony leaders and citizens and members of the business community and the public in general for their response to the community work in their respective area.
Pughoboto
Citizens of Pughoboto subdivision joined the state for the mass community work on April 21 too as directed by the government of Nagaland. The cleaning drive was supervised and monitored by administrators. The Gaon Bura of the colonies led and mobilised the community members for the event.
The government employees also carried out the drive in office complexes and surroundings. The participants cleared the clogged drains, and thick weeds, bottles, and polythene bags etc. Drains, footpaths, and streets were cleaned by volunteers including soldiers, Adhoc Town Council members, and others.
The cleanliness drive was carried out in and around Mokokchung town too. During the event, members of the public from all the 18 wards, and employees of government and semi-government establishments participated under the supervision of district administration and the Mokokchung Municipal Council.
Taking responsibility of their respective ward, chairman and Gaon Bura of all the wards in the town supervised the community in cleaning drains, streets, and public places.
In all the government offices, heads of offices along with their respective staff members cleaned up their office premises after which all the employees moved to areas allocated to each department where they were assigned to work, as directed by the government.
Apart from cleaning office premises and wards, six locations namely Sewak Gate, the town’s hospital areas, parking lot, MMC shopping complex, the police point, old town hall vegetable market, and Salangtem new market, were cleaned.
As part of the cleanliness drive, the district administration organised a the cleaning drive across the district on the 21st.
In the district headquarters, all the district heads of offices cleaned their respective office premises besides clearing foliage and drains. The departments housed within the deputy commissioner’s office complex took charge of cleaning the complex. Workers from the Public Health Engineering department volunteered to offer light refreshments to all the participants after the mass cleanliness work.
At Peren town, all the ward chairman and Gaon Bura mobilised community members in their respective ward and colony, to clear shrubs and drains. The work began at 6:00 in the morning. The community work was supervised by the additional deputy commissioner of Peren district and assisted by the additional superintendent of police and subdivision officer of the Public Works department (roads and bridges) of Peren.
The community cleaning drive was conducted in Jalukie, Tening and Ahthibung too, with their respective administrative head supervising the social work. Villages across the district also participated in the event.
Citizens of Dimapur also witnessed a slightly cleaner city after the mass cleaning work that was conducted on April 21, which commenced at 7 am. Administrative officers and community leaders engaged in mobilizing citizens to clean the 23 wards under the supervision of Gaon Bura and ward chairmen.
Also, government employees cleaned their respective office premise and compound under the supervision of their heads of office as directed by Deputy Commissioner Sushil Kumar Patel.
The Dimapur Municipal Council also pressed into service all its machineries including dumpers and excavators, with manpower for the event.
The deputy commissioner visited the town’s areas and most of the wards during the event. At the Super Market, old and unusable marketing sheds were pulled down as part of clearing osbtructions and eyesores.
A community group called the Vivekananda Welfare Foundation (VWF) at Dimapur also joined in the cleaning drive at Westyard colony’s main roads area on the day. Members of the group and the colony’s citizens and area’s Gaon Bura took part in the community work.
Earlier, a brief launching programme was held at Westyard colony, where the members of the VWF undertook the Swachatta Oath which was administered by its president.
The group issued a press release on Saturday informing that the gathering at the event were encouraged with the appeal to inculcate the habit of keeping one’s self, household, surroundings and the colony always clean.
Citizens and government institutions in Phek district also took to clearing their premises and public areas during the community work on Saturday. Employees of the government and semi-government institutions, and members of the public of Phek town participated in the event.
The establishment of the deputy commissioner of Phek district has expressed gratitude to the department and to the public of Phek town for the ‘successful conduct of the mass cleaning drive, an update from the district’s Information and Public Relations informed on Saturday.
Wokha town also took to the cleanliness drive in all the town’s colonies, wards, and government offices on April 21. The community work was done under the supervision of the district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon. The administrator visited almost all the colonies, wards, and government offices to monitor the work, updates from the IPR informed on Saturday.
Dr. Jeelani has thanked the public of the district. He has expressed gratitude to the town’s colony and ward chairmen, government employees, and the public in general for their active participation in making the social work a grand success.
As a part of preparing for the monsoon, Mon town also conducted the cleaning work on April 21 from 6:00 am.
Work was distributed to various departments each with a supervising officer. Each department was assigned to work a location or at public junctions. During the event attendance roll was taken, updates from the Information and Public Relations office informed. Participants cleaned and cleared blocked drains, cleared weed and overgrowth along roads besides cleaning office compounds.
Further, shop owners cleaned the business establishment besides unclogging drains.
The ward executives and Gaon Bura took initiative in their respective area to clean it especially roads and drains.
In Longleng district, citizens participated in the cleaning drive despite bad weather. The work commenced from 6: 00 am. The community worked under the supervision of the district administration. workers and members of government offices, nongovernmental organisations, educational institutions, ward leaders, business establishment and the district’s chamber of commerce participated in the event.
As part of the state-wide sanitation drive, members of the Zunheboto District Disaster Management also took to clearing public areas and government establishments, wards and villages.
