Dimapur, July 10 (EMN): In connection with the state-wide launching of measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign from October 3, district task force (DTF), Mokokchung, has held a meeting on July 7 under the chairmanship of Sachin Jaiswal, deputy commissioner, Mokokchung, at ADC’s conference hall.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Temsuyanger, DPO (UIP/RCH), stated that the MR vaccination campaign would target children from the age group of 9 months to 15 years. According to him, the campaign would be an important step towards reducing measles and rubella morbidity and mortality in the country and also outlined the country’s effort to its commitment to eliminate measles and control rubella and congenital rubella syndrome by 2020.
The campaign would be of five-week period with the first two weeks to be held in all schools and educational institutions and the following two weeks in the community- at the Anganwadi centres and health sub centres, and the final week for catch up immunisation of children, who could not be vaccinated in the first two weeks. DPO highlighted about the roles of all the concerned departments, NGOs and district administration and sought their support during the entire campaign period.
Dr. Abhishek Singh, RRT-WHO, also highlighted about the objectives, plans, importance and estimation of human resources in micro planning for MR campaign.
Meanwhile, the DC has requested all the participants to keep themselves updated and extend full support and cooperation within their respective areas for successful implementation of the campaign.
In a similar programme, district task force committee (DTFC) of Peren district has conducted a meeting on July 9 in the deputy commissioner’s (DC) conference hall at New DC complex, Peren.
According to a DIPR report, the DC, S Tainiu, has stressed on the importance of MR campaign which is being organised across the country. She urged upon the members to create public awareness for the success of the programme.
Deputy chief medical officer, Dr. Supongmenla, and the district programme officer, Dr. Nukshisangla, shared plans and targeted areas on how it should be covered during MR vaccination programme. They emphasised that not a single children between the ages of nine months to 15 years should be left out of immunisation programme.
Private practitioners were also asked to support the DTFC for successful implementation of the programme. It stated that all block levels would be monitored by respective officers heading the area.
It added that series of meetings would be convened depending on the need among the implementing agencies before the launching of the campaign on October 3.
