Dimapur, Jan. 12 (EMN): With an aim to discuss relevant social issues with the youth through interaction, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Mokokchung conducted District Youth Convention at Salangtem Community Hall, Mokokchung on Saturday.
The youth convention, which was attended by more than 100 young people, had Mokokchung SDO (C) Thungchambemo Tungoe as the special guest. According to a statement by NYK, the event was organised to instigate the youth to find solution related to critical socio-economic and national development issues with special reference to ‘role of youths,’ and to provide an opportunity for them to prepare a future road map for their involvement in nation-building activities.
Thungchambemo acknowledged that today’s youths ‘know more than the elders’ but said youth is the most challenging phase of life - very daring and full of visions. Meanwhile, he asked the gathering “what legacy are you going to leave behind as a youth?”
He stated that the present youth will take over the responsibilities from the elders and lead the future generations. “The world is a stage,” he said, adding that everyone has his or her own role to play. People will remember one for what role he or she did after they leave the stage. “Are you a role model for others?” he asked.
He appealed the gathering to be God fearing if they want success.
The event also saw Ao Sungkum Cultural Club, Mokokchung walking away with the Best Youth Club Award 2018, winning a cash prize of INR 25,000 and a citation.
