Census 2027 in Nagaland will be conducted in two phases. Phase 1, the house listing and housing census, will be held from June 16 to the 30th, 2026, as a self-enumeration period, followed by house-to-house fieldwork from July 1 to the 30th, 2026. This phase will provide data on housing conditions, amenities, and assets possessed by households, and will serve as the frame for Phase 2.
Phase 2, population enumeration, will be conducted in February 2027, with September 2026 reserved for snow-bound areas. A revisional round of five days for self-enumeration will also be undertaken. This phase will provide data on demographic, socio-cultural, and economic parameters, including migration and fertility characteristics of individuals from each household.
Peren: Training on the census for district-level charge officers and an introduction to the Census 2027 methods, processes, and rules for key stakeholders were conducted at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall at the New Peren headquarters on Tuesday.
Vikishe Chishi, Deputy Director of the Census Department, outlined the role of census functionaries, legal provisions, fund management, and publicity activities related to the training for Census 2027 through a PowerPoint presentation.
The deputy director also spoke on the objectives and the most credible source of information on demography and other socio-cultural data. He stated that the Census of India 2027 will begin with house listing, housing census, and population enumeration, during which census data collection will be done via the Census 2027 HLO mobile application.
He pointed out that the mobile application is compatible with smartphones of both Android and iOS, as the enumerators provide fetching facilities for self-enumerated house census records, which can be edited as and when needed. He further stated the role of the enumerators during their door-to-door visits in identifying households.
He also brought to light the honourarium and awards for the enumerators and supervisors engaged in the census work as per the provisions given by the Government of India.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Peren Hiazu Meru welcomed all the officers who attended the training and encouraged them to know more about the census and perform their assigned duties diligently.
The census team comprised Vikishe Chishi, Statistical Investigator Imtimendang, and Statistical Investigator K Mahesh, who imparted knowledge on the census policy and its objectives during the training.
