Dimapur, Aug. 6 (EMN): The first district football competition running trophy organised by the 28th Assam Rifles, Shoorveer BN under the aegis of 5 Sector Kohima got underway on Monday, Aug. 6 in Wokha.
According to a press release issued by the DIPR, declaring the match open BN 2/I C, Bachchu Singh encouraged the players to exhibit their talents in the true sportsmanship of the game. He also mentioned that out of this tournament players will be selected to represent the district during the forthcoming Nagaland Football tournament in memory of Captain (late) Kenguruse, Maha Vir ChaKra, which is scheduled to be held in the month of September.
General secretary, Wokha District Football Association (WDFA), Zuben, who also gave a short speech during the inaugural function thanked the Commandant 28 Assam Rifles, Col. Hiren Borah for giving the opportunity and platform to the young players to show case their talents in sports especially football and urged the players to perform better as it is an excellent opportunity whereby they can even get a chance to play even at the national and international level.
30 teams are vying for the championship.
The winner of the competition will walk home with a cash award of INR 25,000 and the runners-up will get richer by INR 15, 000 along with running trophy, medals and certificates. Golden boot and golden glove will be awarded with a cash prize of INR 2500 each.
Chukitong Club, Wozhuro FC and Fanatic Football Club (Nsuyu Village) registered their first win on the opening day of the tournament.
