Concerns of the concerned Nagas are growing in this implicit disparagement of intellectual values in the Naga society.
Earlier we have touched this line and we are doing it again today as the situation demands it.
These so called leaders and intellectuals have failed to mind their responsibilities. Because of this reason, today, our society is experiencing a free-fall.
According to German philosopher Martin Heidegger, “Truth is the revelation of that which makes a people certain, clear, and strong in its action and knowledge; it is only this kind of truth that one has a responsibility to speak.” According to American thinker Noam Chomsky, “It is the responsibility of intellectuals to speak the truth and to expose lies. This, at least, may seem enough of a truism to pass over without comment. He said the intellectuals should be analyzing actions according to their causes and motives and often hidden intentions.”Concerning the Naga society, the trend we are experiencing today is perhaps due to lack of a culture of retrospection, investigation and debate. Our society has not been encouraged to inculcate this habit. The growing lack of concern for truth is perhaps making our society a diseased one. We feel menaced because none stood up to counter our ‘ideological threat’. This is because we are not concerned with the values and the dignity.
Earlier, this column has stated that a society sans conscience keepers is more vulnerable to the influence of the vested interest elements. Such society is also more prone to fragmentation/disintegration.
We witness that our leaders and civil society organizations limit themselves only in studying which side of the fence the majority of the people stands.
