Diphu, July 10 (EMN): The Karbi Students' Association (KSA)Jemson Timung faction on Saturday accused the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council's leaders of being ‘partial and discriminatory’ on educational matters.
Moniram Teron, KSA central committee member, in a press conference at District Press Club of Karbi Anglong's (DPCKA) office stated, 'KAAC has failed to uplift and develop the educational sector in Karbi Anglong despite having executive power over the department'.
'Education is a social matter and constructive and productive conversation with all the stakeholders is necessary in developing the education sector in the backward districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong'. He further termed the visit of Assam Education minister to Karbi Anglong as 'useless'.
Teron stated, 'After signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 1, 1995 by KSA, Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), Dimasa Students Union (DSU) and North Cachar Hills Students Federation (NCHSF), the legislative and executive power was conferred to the KAAC’. However, he lamented about the dilapidated state of the education sector in infrastructure and the quality of education.
"Since the legislative and executive power for education is under the purview of KAAC. So we appeal KAAC to give more importance to education and mere visiting of state education minister will not solve the long standing problem of education in Karbi Anglong and west Karbi Anglong district", Teron added.
The KSA leaders also highlighted demands including provincialisation of LP venture schools, high schools, colleges and establishment of Science and Commerce college in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, regularisation of Karbi language teachers' post, immediate regularisation and provincialisation of all Karbi medium schools, immediate upgradation of Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC) into a full-fledged institute, special TET for Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong be held by KAAC and immediate expulsion and transfer of Dr. Nirab Kumar Sarma, Principal of Diphu Government College for corruption and obliterating the congenial educational atmosphere of the college, which is the only premier institute of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.
