Dimapur, April 10 (EMN): A sensitisation programme was organised on April 10 at Lotha Tribal Council Hall in Wokha. The programme was organised by the group of doctors and psychologists to spread awareness and sensitise the shopkeepers in the schools premises.
According to update on Tuesday, dental surgeon, Dr. Mhonthung Tungoe, in his key note address, said there are more than 7000 thousand poisonous chemicals found in tobacco products. A person dies in every six second globally due to the use of tobacco products, he added.
‘Everyone knows tobacco consumption can have disastrous consequences on our health but many ignore the risk and use it,’ he said. He urged the participants to discourage the use of tobacco products for healthy life.
Psychologist at NTCP Wokha, Abeni, spoke on the harmful effects of tobacco on health. She said that the programme was organised to sensitise the shopkeepers not to sell tobacco products within 100 yards from the school premises.
Emphasizing on Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2005, she said that violations of the provision may lead the violators to an imprisonment of two to five years or more with penalty in the form of imposition of fines.
She informed that checking will start in collaboration with the enforcement agencies shortly.
