Dimapur, March 31 (EMN): Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), in collaboration with State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), organized a disaster management drill at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma on March 31. The exercise was supported by Fire & Emergency services, Kohima.
The event was a simulation of disaster and reaction to its effect in real time and place. It was focused at disaster preparedness in institutions.
Both teachers and students participated, guided and supported by the disaster management agencies. On completion of the exercise, debriefing was held to review the performance, and thence to formulation of steps to improve upon response in the event of a disaster.
The Principal and ‘Responsible Officer’ of the drill, Dr. I. Anungla Aier thanked the organisers and supporting departments for having selected the college. In response Johnny Rongmie, OSD, NSDMA and L. Jonjibemo Odyuo, SRRO, said the college may be used as a model to develop a module of training in disaster management for other institutions of the state.
The program culminated with instructions on fire safety and table top exercise delivered by Kenny Khing, Inspector, Fire& Emergency Services and L. Jonjibemo Odyuo, SRRO, NSDMA, respectively.
Earlier, Kenneth Punyu, assistant professor of the college led the programme held on the basics of disaster management in which officers from the NSDMA and the district’s counterpart, namely Thejangulie Zao, Temsuwangshi and Khrolou Kosa Lohe spoke.
