Dimapur, Nov. 7 (EMN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) conducted a seminar on disaster risk reduction and community preparedness, for the people of Razeba Range at Razeba town, in Chizami sub-division of Phek district on November 6. The event was organised by the NSDMA in collaboration with Razeba Town Chakhesang Students' Union, a press release from the union informed.
During the event, extra additional commissioner of Razeba, Kelengunuo Solo urged the students, youth and parents to fight against deforestation. She called for preservation of natural resources and combat Global Warming. In case of any emergencies, she said, the community should inform the administration so that appropriate measure can be taken. She also urged the public to cultivate civic responsibility and not always wait for the government.
An official, Khrolou Koza Lohe gave a presentation on disaster management and village disaster management authorities. She said that the community is the first responder and that it needs to help one another in any eventuality. Citing the story of Joseph in Bible in the book of Genesis and the famine, she urged the people to stay prepared; the community needs to use the gifts given by the Almighty God and the knowledge given by the people. Her presentation focused on prevention and precautions on fire safety, lightning, and earthquake.
Further, a demonstration on first aid application, and search and rescue techniques were conducted by SDRF of Phek. The team showed how to dress the injured, and the various methods of bandaging, methods of rescue in case of emergency etc.
The Razeba Town Chakhesang Students' Union said it and the people of Razeba range were grateful to the NSDMA for conducting the seminar.
