Dimapur, Aug. 12 (EMN): A telephonic information line called the disability information line or ‘DIL’ has been set up by the Social Welfare authorities to provide the public with information about major disabilities.
The establishment of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, department of Social Welfare, issued the notification on August 12 to the media. Diethono Nakhro, state commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, issued the press release.
The objective of the system is to create awareness among persons with disabilities, and the community, the updates stated.
According to the handout, the system makes available information on causes, prevention, diagnosis, intervention/treatment, aids and appliances; education, employment, and list of service providers and government schemes and concessions. The disability information line has been installed at different regions to provide state-specific information and local language support, the establishment.
The disability information line is accessible round-the-clock through telephone as it is an interactive voice response system, the commissioner stated. The service of a call attendant is available during working hours. Information can be obtained in English, Hindi and regional language. The disability information line can be accessed from any part of India by calling to the nearest centre, the updates stated.
