Dimapur, March 17 (EMN): Embarking on a mission to curb the menace of tobacco consumption considering its negative impact, Diphupar Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) conducted surprise checking on shops selling tobacco and nicotine products within 100 metre perimeter of educational institutions on March 15.
During the surprise checking conducted by its action committee, around 16 shops were booked for selling tobacco and nicotine products at the vicinity of schools and colleges in Diphupar.
The seized tobacco items included gutkas, biri, cigarettes, khaini, rajnighandha and paan masala. All the seized items were later burnt.
In a joint press release, the union general secretary Grizel A Ngullie, and the education and statistical secretary, Zhoku Nyekha, stated that sternly warnings were served to the erring shopkeepers. The union cautioned that trade license would be confiscated and impose fines against anyone found violating the orders.
