DIMAPUR — The Diocese of Kohima marked the feast of St. John Mary Vianney, the Curé of Ars and patron saint of priests, at St. Joseph Parish, Chümoukedima, in the presence of Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima.

The two-day programme began on August 7 with friendly games and sports, giving diocesan priests an opportunity to relax, interact, and strengthen bonds of fraternity. The day concluded with the fraternity meeting, where matters concerning pastoral ministry and diocesan life were discussed.

On August 8, the celebration opened with a Holy Eucharistic service presided over by Rev. Fr. Augustine Kerketta. The homily was delivered by Rev. Fr. John Poji, one of the jubilarians marking his silver jubilee of priestly ordination.

Fr. Poji expressed gratitude to God for His providential care during his 25 years of priesthood, recalling moments when God preserved him in extraordinary ways.

Drawing from the day’s readings, he urged the faithful to nurture a “passion for our mission with compassion”, following the example of Jesus the Good Shepherd and St. John Mary Vianney.

Following the Eucharist, a felicitation programme was organised by students of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima, featuring cultural performances to honour the priests’ dedication and sacrifices.

Addressing the gathering, Bishop Dr. Thoppil quoted St. John Mary Vianney’s words, “A priest is not for himself,” and encouraged students to remain grateful to priests and religious who have left the comforts of home to serve God and His people. He reminded all that the priesthood is a gift for the Church and a sign of God’s enduring love.

The celebration concluded with Rev. Fr. Augustine Kerketta expressing gratitude on behalf of all priests to the bishop, parish community, students, and all contributors.
