Dimapur, Jan. 29 (EMN): ‘Bishu,’ the post harvest festival of the Dimasa (Kacharis), was celebrated on January 27 with pomp and gaiety at Government High School ground, Dhansiripar, where Prodip Diphusa, Dimasa executive member of Karbi Anglong, Assam, was the chief guest.
About 3000 people including host of special invitees from IMTN, MKPO and Garo Tribal Council also attended the celebration. Three cultural troupes from Amaluma and Dhansiripar have enthralled the gathering with cultural items.
The programme began with an invocation pronounced by John Jigdung, president of SBBN, followed by felicitation to the village chiefs to commence the festival.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest conveyed Bishu greetings and exhorted the community to preserve the age old culture and traditions passed on from generations. He appealed the people from ten villages to stay united and maintain communal harmony among tribes around.
There was also a display of traditional games and sports from participating villages and culminated with mass dancing and feasting. This was stated in a press release issued by Amon Difoe, publicity secretary of Dimasa Public Organisation Nagaland (DPON).
