Diphu, Oct. 10 (EMN): The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) from Hojai and the Fire and Emergency Service from Diphu have not succeeded in tracing the body of a youth from Dimapur, who was suspected to have drowned at Langvoku river after accidentally falling into a waterfall on Saturday.
The youth, Suresh Chakma (23) of Firing Range colony in Dimapur had visited Langvoku waterfall for a picnic along with his friends on October 8 when the tragic accident happened.
Chakma's friends informed that they had climbed to the crest of the waterfall and were taking photos when the victim slipped and fell.
Langvoku waterfall is located about 43 km away from Dimapur.
The SDRF from Hojai reached the spot on Sunday, October 9, to search for the missing body. The team joined by Fire and Emergency Service, Diphu, continued the search operation downstream of the Langvoku river on Monday, but was unable to trace the body.
Langvoku Waterfall Development Committee also assisted in the search operation.
Assistant Commissioner from Diphu, Gunjun Sharma said the SDRF team started the search operation on Sunday and continued till Monday, but was not fruitful.
‘Yesterday, due to the high volume of water the rescue team had to stop the search operation. The SDRF team will continue to search the body as it might be stuck underneath the stones and if not, search downstream of Chomna river,’ he added.
The victim's family, who were present at the incident site, urged both the Assam and Nagaland governments to trace the body.
