Kohima, May 10 (EMN): Dimapur district won the 9th Nagaland Veteran Inter-District Football Championship after defeating host Kohima 2-0 on Fri. May 10 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima.
The two goals for Dimapur were scored by Captain Y Yanbemo Lotha in the 51st and 60th minute respectively. The champion walked home with a cash prize of INR 30,000 and the runner's up team received INR 20, 000. Lotha also received the individual award for highest goal scorer with five goals.
The two semi-finalists team received INR 10,000 each.
Secretary of the department of Youth Resources and Sports, Lhouchalie Viya urged the veterans to promote football at the interior part of the state. He suggested the veterans to adopt a village or a club and tap in the resources. Keeping this view, Viya urged them to work out a mechanism to reach out to the villages.
The five-day long championship was organised by the Nagaland Veteran Football Association (NVFA) and hosted by the Kohima District Veteran Football Association (KDVFA).
