DIMAPUR — The 2nd Nagaland Junior Athletics Championships were conducted on September 10 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
The event, organised by the Nagaland Athletics Association, was aimed at identifying young talents in the state and selecting athletes with promising performance to represent Nagaland in the forthcoming 36th East Zone Junior Athletics Championships in Ranchi, Jharkhand, according to an update.
A total of 92 athletes from Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon and Noklak took part in the championships. The competition was held for boys and girls in the Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 categories.

Dimapur topped the medal tally with 9 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze medal. Kohima followed with 5 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze medals, while Mokokchung won 2 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals. Noklak secured 3 gold, 1 silver and 6 bronze medals, and Mon won 2 bronze medals.
In the Under-14 boys section, the winners in Triathlon A were Lanutemjen Kichu of Mokokchung, Mughakupu H of Dimapur and Arenlong Tzudir of Mokokchung. Triathlon B was won by Ilopu K Khujumi of Dimapur, followed by Aneizo Meru of Kohima and Lanuonen Jamir of Mokokchung. Triathlon C saw Lemma of Dimapur in first place, with Thanghiu P of Noklak and Imliwar Jamir of Mokokchung in second and third, respectively.
In the Under-14 girls section, Anon M Konyak of Dimapur secured first place in Triathlon B, while Neisavono Nagi of Kohima and Sungjemyongla Jamir of Mokokchung took the second and third positions.
In the Under-16 boys category, the 60m winners were Imlinungba of Mokokchung, Diezevi of Kohima and Kinoto K Zhimomi of Dimapur. The 600m winners were Alemwati Longchar of Dimapur, Imjungsunep Pongen of Mokokchung and Pongom T of Noklak.
In high jump, the top three were Nchelo of Kohima, Mhasinguto of Kohima and Khule P of Noklak. Long jump was won by Moalong Jamir of Dimapur, followed by Neikeduoilie of Kohima and Mengukhriezo of Kohima. The shot put winners were Dzieseneizo of Kohima, Kekhrieselhoul of Dimapur and Muhpa Konyak of Mon.
In the Under-16 girls section, the 60m winners were Neshe Maongyu Konyak of Dimapur, Apoang N of Dimapur and Meyijung T Jamir of Mokokchung. The 600m winners were Supei S of Dimapur, Meyijung T Jamir of Mokokchung and Ketoubii Semo of Kohima.
In the Under-18 boys section, the 100m winners were Avizha Zalie of Kohima, Hubert Yanthan of Dimapur and Thengem L of Noklak. The 200m winners were Avizha Zhalie of Kohima, Hubert Yanthan of Dimapur and Thangmeng K of Noklak.
The 400m winners were Thangmeng K of Noklak, Medophretuo of Kohima and Shing P of Noklak. The 1000m winners were Sullim of Noklak, Apoujan of Kohima and Shing P of Noklak. In the long jump, the top three were Thengem L of Noklak, Apoujan of Kohima and Megongulie of Kohima. In shot put, the winners were Kelenguzo Dziivich of Kohima, Sentionen Jamir of Mokokchung and Shemwang Konyak of Mon.
In the Under-18 girls category, the 100m winners were Merin Beck of Dimapur, Imnasenla of Mokokchung and Zevokhrienuo Rutsa of Kohima. The 200m winners were Merin Beck of Dimapur, Imnasenla of Mokokchung and Zevokhrienuo Rutsa of Kohima.
