DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF) is all set to organise Urban Challenge, the 1st Dimapur Urban Inter-Colony Open Games and Sports Meet, tentatively on November 20 and 21.
Announcing this during a press conference at Hotel Grand Vista, Dimapur, on Friday, DUCCF President Zasivikho Zakiesato said the indigenous-themed sporting event aims to provide Dimapur residents a platform to come together, interact and fellowship.
Competitions at the event will include Tug of War, Bamboo Stilt Race, Nail Hitting, Hitting Target with Spear, Wood Cutting with a Hand Saw, and Rooster Fight.
Zakiesato informed that guidelines and game formats will be made available to all 97 colonies under DUCCF, following which fixtures would be prepared.
He acknowledged the support of MLAs and Advisors H. Tovihoto Ayemi and Moatoshi Longkumer, stating that their continued encouragement and commitment had helped the organisers take up the initiative.
He also urged the residents to actively take part in the event and field the best from their respective colonies, saying that winners will be awarded with attractive prizes.
Convener of core committee for the event, Asalie Peseyie, said the event will bring people from various communities, reflecting the city's cosmopolitan character.
The games, although not entirely indigenous, are based on indigenous themes and will provide an opportunity for urban residents to reconnect with their roots and cultural traditions, he said, adding that invitations and registration forms will be sent to all 97 colonies.
He said the total number of participants could reach into the thousands if each colony fields 20 to 25 participants across six games.
