Dimapur, June 18 (EMN): As part of monsoon preparedness against natural calamities and other disasters, Dimapur district is set to organise a mock drill soon.
This was announced during the 2nd quarterly meeting of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Dimapur, held on June 18 at DC’s conference hall, Dimapur, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) and chairman DDMA, Dimapur, Keveka Kevin Zehol.
The meeting was held to review and discuss the monsoon preparedness level in Dimapur district and the proposed monsoon mock drill to be soon held in the district.
Addressing the members, DC Dimapur reminded all the line departments to pull up their socks and be ready to work for the services and welfare of the people, stating that disaster happens un-announced. Observing that the first conducted mock drill was not impressive, he urged upon all the line departments to be fully prepared for emergency.
District Disaster Management Officer, Dimapur, Rendemo Lotha informed that one company from the National Disaster Response Force from Arunachal are presently stationed at the Central Training Institute. He informed that they would be conducting mock drill simulating scenario of river side drowning.
The house also discussed on the need for undertaking power department audit as power department becomes vital during disaster, where the power line has to be disconnected first for safety purpose. The members also discussed the importance of installing fire extinguishers in offices, colleges, schools, business establishments, cinema halls etc and impart knowledge on how to handle the equipments.
Officials from Fire and Emergency Service felt that high rise buildings of 15 metres and above should have two stairways (left and right) and an emergency exit.
The members have also discussed on the need of a hydrolic ladder for Dimapur district. The meeting ended with a note of thanks from the chair where he assured that the points discussed has been noted for follow up action.
