Dimapur, Sep. 27 (EMN): The Dimapur Sumi Students’ Union (DSSU) on Thur. held its biennial Freshers’ meet cum felicitation programme at IMC Hall, Dimapur on the theme, ‘shaping visions’ with the chairman of Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School (LFHSS), Andrew Ahoto Sema and the Founding Director of Youthnet, Hekani Jakhalu as the guest special invitee and theme speaker respectively.
A press release from the union, while highlighting about the meet, stated that Andrew Ahoto Sema exhorted the students not to be just takers but givers to the society. To drive home his point, Sema cited the example of the Dead Sea which, he said only receives; while the river Galilee thrives with life “when both get fed from the same source - the river Jordan”.
Saying that there is more in giving than in taking, Sema further exhorted the students to be always honest and hospitable in life - traits for which Nagas were, and are, well-known for. The DSSU also felicitated Sema on his achievements on being honoured with the prestigious title “The Education Icon of the Year 2018” presented by the Education Today at the north educators summit and school merit awards meet held at Harayana on September 8 ‘for his contributions in the field of education’.
Theme speaker, Hekani Jakhalu reminded the students to keep God as their foundation, or else everything will fail’. Speaking on the theme ‘Shaping vision’, Jakhalu urged the students and the youths to take life very seriously ‘considering the tremendous competition in the job market today’.
She lamented that the students, though they have a degree, were just not ready for the market; therefore, she urged the students to make use of the ‘internet age wisely.’
Nonetheless, she encouraged the students to set a goal for oneself, to think positively, come out of their comfort zones, never quit in the face of setbacks, and to have role models in life.
Besides, while saying that the most crucial part of a student’s life is the 16-17 years of education which will determine the next 50 years of his or life, Jakhalu encouraged the students to be good ambassadors for the Sumi community and not to depend on outsiders alone for one’s wellness or livelihood.
During the meet, the titles of titles of Mr. & Ms. Freshers were bagged by Mughapu Assumi of ‘United Colony SKK’ and ‘Ilokali D Zhimo of Patkai Christian College SKK’ respectively. The winners will undergo six months computer crash course sponsored by NIIT Dimapur.
Meanwhile, DSSU collected “free-will donation from the students and well wishers towards the CMRF during the programme”. It was informed that an amount of INR 34,450 was contributed by the Sumi students and well-wishers.
