Dimapur Sümi Council, Western Sumi Students’ Union condemn alleged sexual assault on juvenile

DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Sümi Council (DSC) has expressed shock and indignation over the recent alleged sexual assault of a juvenile in Dimapur, calling for stringent legal action and increased community vigilance.

In a condemnation note, DSC described the act as an affront to the safety, dignity, and values of society, stating that crimes of this nature are intolerable and must be met with the strictest application of the law.

Calling for the immediate cancellation of the accused’s trade licence, it said that such detestable acts are not new and must be dealt with firmly if proven guilty.

The council urged law enforcement agencies to expedite the investigation and ensure that justice is served through due legal process. It also called for vigilance and accountability in safeguarding the rights and well-being of citizens, particularly women and children.

The council has urged all other civil societies, women’s, and student organisations to stand united against such appalling acts.

In a separate press statement, the Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) stated that this monstrous act committed against a defenceless child is not only criminal but an assault on the conscience of society.

Stating that such despicable crimes have no place in any civilised land and that this atrocity occurred in a public and densely populated area raises serious concerns about public safety, especially for children, WSSU demanded that law enforcement authorities initiate immediate, transparent, and uncompromising legal action.

“A fast-track trial and exemplary punishment must be ensured so that justice is not delayed or denied,” it said, urging the district administration and police to conduct a thorough review and verification of individuals and businesses operating in commercial zones.

The union said that it stands firmly beside the victim and prays for her full recovery and healing, both physically and emotionally.
