With the festive season setting in the city, the Dimapur Railway Puja Committee has geared up to welcome Durga Puja festival and its 31st Durga Puja was inaugurated by Swami Chinmayanandajee Maharaj of Bharat Sevashram Sangha on Monday October 19 at Railway colony Dimapur.
The 31st Durga Puja celebration organized by the Dimapur Railway Puja Committee was marked with an act ‘Sastitei Mayai Agomone (welcoming the goddess Durga) by Chandan Debroy from Lumding Assam and cultural extravaganza by various artiste from Assam.Women dressed in their trademark traditional Bengali white color saree bordered with red, men in their best suit and children in their favorite attire thronged the Puja Pandal to witness and celebrate their anticipated festival of the year.
Durga Puja one of the most awaited gala of the Bengali community and the celebration will be witnessed from 19th October to 23rd October 2015.
In a similar event, a Hindu community organization, the Bharat Sevashram Sangha of Dimapur undertook philanthropic activities on Monday. Members of the group organized a “cloth distribution program” for the downtrodden and the poor, on October 19. The event was conducted at 10:00 AM. The event comes on the eve of Durga Puja. Around 1,500 poor people received new clothes, the organization stated in a press release on Monday.
The organization explained: “On this occasion, Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj, in-charge, Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Dimapur, Nagaland and Karbi-Anglong district, Assam spoke that like every year, this year also, through this cloth distribution, Bharat Sevashram Sangha tries to serve the underprivileged. He also mentioned that around 50% of the total budget of Durga Puja is spent every year for this cloth Distribution.”
The Bharat Sevashram Sangha has wished a Happy Durga Puja to the people of the state.
In a separate press release, the members of the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry have wished the citizens of Dimapur especially those from the Hindu community a happy and prosperous Durga Puja and Dussehra celebrations.
“May Goddess Durga enlighten all of us with lots of happiness, wisdom and good health. The DCCI requests all the citizens to maintain peace and harmony during the festival time,” the organization stated in its press release.
Likewise, the Dimapur Bengali Samaj has wished happy festivities to all the citizens of Nagaland, particularly to the members of the Hindu community.
“Further, we wish that this festive spirit will usher us all into a period of progress and prosperity,” the message from KK Paul, president of the Dimapur Bengali Samaj, stated.
