Police rescue man abducted at gunpoint in Karbi Anglong from Kuhuboto area; suspected NSCN Nikki cadre held.
DIMAPUR — A man who was allegedly abducted at gunpoint from Lama Bosti in Khatkhati, Karbi Anglong district of Assam, was rescued from the Kuhuboto area following a police operation, while a suspected NSCN Nikki cadre was apprehended.
According to a press release issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime)/PRO, Dimapur, information regarding the abduction was received from Assam Police at around 9.30 pm on October 7.
The victim was allegedly abducted by unidentified miscreants and taken towards the Dimapur area.
Following the information, a team led by the officer-in-charge of East Police Station was activated to trace the victim, and an extensive operation was launched.
At around 1.30 am on October 8, a suspected person was apprehended from the divider of the four-lane highway in the general area of Kuhuboto. During the operation, the other abductors allegedly fired shots and managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
The apprehended suspect was brought to East Police Station for questioning and was identified as Kivito Aye, 32, a second lieutenant of NSCN Nikki.

During questioning, it was revealed that the abduction had been carried out by around six to seven individuals. Following preliminary interrogation of the apprehended suspect, the victim was located and rescued from the Kuhuboto area.
After completion of the necessary formalities, both the rescued victim and the apprehended suspect were handed over to Assam Police for further investigation.
Vehicle document deadline extended
The compliance period for vehicle document requirements in Dimapur has been extended by another 30 days, until November 11. According to a press note issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime)/PRO, the extension follows the office's earlier press release on “Vehicle Document Compliance” dated September 11.
All owners and drivers of motor vehicles have been requested to use the extended period to update, renew or obtain the required vehicle documents within the stipulated time.
