Dimapur, April 19 (EMN): Dimapur Police in the last fortnight has arrested 6 persons on charges of extortion and related crimes.
The Anti Extortion Team (AET) under Zone-II on April 18, arrested two persons from PWD area, Dimapur after they were found extorting money. The arrested persons were identified as Naratho Pochury, son of Koto Pochury of Meluri Village currently residing at Thilixu Village, Dimapur, reportedly a Major of the GDRN/NNC (NA) and Hezekiya Awomi, son of late Khuvito of Homeland village, Dimapur and present resident of Burma Camp, Dimapur, reportedly a Captain of the GDRN/NNC (NA).
On April 11, the Anti Extortion Team (AET) under Zone-I arrested two persons from Murgipatti area, Dimapur while they were extorting money from business houses. The arrested persons were identified as ThsaroseSangtam, son of Chumpimong Sangtam of Yangzitong Village, Kiphire, presently residing at Chekiye village, Dimapur and Hito Chishi, son of late Akheho Chishi of Litami village, Zunheboto, present resident of Purana Bazaar. Incriminating documents in the form of demand slips of the NSCN(R), money in cash, etc., were seized from their possessions.
On April 5, two persons were arrested while robbing passengers of an Autorickshaw at late hours near Sewak Gate area, Dimapur. The arrested persons were identified as Tiakaba Jamir, son of late Kariba Jamir of Changki Village, currently residing at MST Colony, Dimapur and Sanjeev Raj, son of Dhurbo Rai, resident of MST Colony, Dimapur.
On April 17, the Dimapur Police raided a house located at Valley View Colony, Dimapur and seized approximately 225 cases of illegal assorted IMFL. In this connection, one person identified as Vika Yepthomi, son of Hukai Yepthomi of Litami village and a present resident of 4th Mile, Dimapur has been arrested and necessary investigations are underway.
Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dimapur in a notification informed that advisory has been issued to all proprietors of Printing Press, Rubber Stamp vendors and related business houses located within Dimapur not to print official letter pads and seals of Government offices and officers without authorization of the office or the officer concerned. Non-compliance of the advisory and, in the event of misuse of such stationeries thereof, will entail liabilities upon such business establishments.
It also advised all the citizens and customers to be vigilant of being cheated by manipulation or use of non-certified weights and measures in shops, stores or meat vendors, etc. It is also encouraged that such incidents must be reported to the police to enable legal actions.
ADC Police Dimapur also added that customers are reported to have been detecting such practices very frequently, especially in meat shops, but most do not bother to official complain on such matters. In connection to the matter, it also informed that the Dimapur Police under Zone-II has been observing the month of April as “Weight & Measure” month. Various exercises on the matter are being carried out and defaulters have been booked under relevant sections of law, the press release added.
