Dimapur Police arrested two accused in a kidnapping and extortion case registered at East Police Station.

DIMAPUR — Dimapur Police have solved a kidnapping and extortion case registered at East Police Station on April 21, leading to the arrest of two accused persons and seizure of digital evidence, including CCTV footage.
According to a press release issued by the Commissioner of Police, the case was registered following a written FIR filed by Ruhon Das of Sematilla, Dimapur. The complainant alleged that on April 20 at around 7 pm, while returning home after closing his shop at Hongkong Market, he was followed and wrongfully restrained by two unidentified persons near the Murgipatti area.
Police said the accused allegedly forced the victim towards the highway near the DMC office, threatened him for money, and took possession of his mobile phone.
The victim was allegedly compelled to reveal his Google Pay password, following which the accused withdrew Rs 6,000 from his account at an IOC petrol pump in the Ghorapatti area.

The victim was later taken towards the Clock Tower area and released near Vishal Mega Mart before the accused fled the scene.
Following the complaint, personnel from East Police Station launched an investigation and examined CCTV footage collected from the IOC petrol pump and nearby public places. The footage reportedly helped identify the accused persons, whose photographs were circulated among field police units.
A case was registered under Sections 137(2) and 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
During the course of investigation, the first accused, identified as M Stephen Yanthan, was arrested on April 28.
Based on further intelligence inputs and follow-up operations, the second accused, Chumbenthung Yanthan, was arrested on May 6.
Police clarified that no weapon was used during the incident, contrary to earlier claims made during media interactions after the incident.
Dimapur Police stated that the successful detection of the case within a short period reflected the coordinated efforts of the investigation and field teams.
The Commissioner of Police also appreciated the personnel involved for their prompt action in apprehending both accused persons.
