Dimapur, March 8 (EMN): Commemorating the ‘World Hearing Day,’ district health society, Dimapur, organised screening camps for hearing impairment in government schools in Dimapur on the theme “Check your hearing!”
A screening camp was held at GMS, Midland Colony, on February 27 and at GPS, Thahekhu Block-7, on March 8. According to a press release, chief medical officer (CMO), Dimapur, Dr. K Vikato Kinimi, stated that the screening camps were organised for early identification and intervention for hearing loss.
Dr. Antoly Suu, deputy chief medical officer, Dimapur, explained to the students the importance of hearing and how loss of hearing could affect their lives. She also informed the students on the value of practising safe hearing and taking care of their ears.
She further urged the students to share those messages to their friends and families and get their hearing checked regularly as many people do not realised they are living with unidentified hearing loss.
A total of 121 students were screened during the two screening camps and four students were identified for hearing aid trials. The medical team was led by Dr. Saku, ENT specialist, DHD; Michael, audiometrist, DHD; school health team Dimapur district; DPM, NHM Dimapur; and DMO, NHM Dimapur.
