DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the district administration and authorities concerned, demanding swift and decisive action against Nirmal Jain, whom it described as a “habitual offender” with a history of alleged involvement in criminal activities, including the benami system and fuel adulteration cases.

In a press release issued on Monday, the DNSU expressed deep concern over what it called “prolonged inaction and the lack of transparent findings” concerning investigations into Jain’s alleged criminal activities. The union reminded that it had earlier submitted a detailed representation to the authorities, urging a thorough probe into the matter.

The student union asserted that despite Nirmal Jain’s alleged history of criminal offences, including fraudulently acquiring indigenous certificates and property, he has consistently managed to evade accountability. The union questioned the integrity of the administration, stating that “it is high time the administrators present their fact findings to the public.”

It warned that Jain’s activities pose a direct threat to the land and identity of the indigenous people of Nagaland, and reiterated its demand for the immediate cancellation of any fraudulently acquired indigenous certificates and properties.

“Failure to deliver justice will mark one of the darkest chapters in the history of Dimapur,” the DNSU cautioned, adding that any attempt to delay the investigation under the pretext of fact-finding would only further provoke public sentiment.

The union further stated that it would not tolerate what it termed as Jain’s “pattern of absconding” from Dimapur only to return once cases had “cooled down.” It maintained that no matter what tactics are employed, justice must prevail.

Additionally, the DNSU cautioned citizens against engaging in any land transactions involving Nirmal Jain, stating that individuals doing so would bear full responsibility for any consequences arising from such dealings.

The union also clarified that no politician, political party, NGO, government official, Naga political organisation, or civil society group should support Nirmal Jain’s alleged activities. “The ball is now squarely in the hands of the administration,” it said, warning that any individual or group found assisting Jain would face public backlash.

Reaffirming its commitment to “stand and fight for the truth,” the DNSU warned that should the authorities fail to act within the stipulated timeframe, it would, with the support of the people of Nagaland, be compelled to initiate its own course of action to ensure justice is served.

It also appealed to all sections of society to remain vigilant and prepared to defend their rights.
