DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) on Friday kicked off its two-day Inter-Tribal Sports Meet 2025 on the theme “Harmony Through Sports” at the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex, Dimapur.

Speaking as the special guest, Yupangnenla Longkumer, Personal Secretary to the Chief Minister, said that sports have become a true global language—one that transcends borders and barriers. Whether on the grand stage of the FIFA World Cup or in a small village tournament, she said, the essence remains the same: bringing people together.

She noted that sports create a space where differences fade away, arguments dissolve, and individuals unite with a shared spirit. When players wear the Nagaland jersey, she said, they do not question each other’s backgrounds or dwell on differences, but focus on giving their best for the state.

This, she added, reflects the power of sports in nurturing unity and brotherhood.

However, she lamented that outside the realm of sports, society struggles to maintain the same neutral space, becoming increasingly divided and clouded by negativity. It has become too easy, she said, to form groups, point fingers and overlook the positives around us.

Longkumer said that real change must begin at the individual level. Each person, she said, must ask what they can contribute to society.

“Let us wear our common jersey, forget our divisions, rise above tribalism, and create a shared space of understanding and unity,” she said.
