DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has raised concern over complaints from students and parents regarding certain educational institutions in Dimapur allegedly charging exorbitant fees for reappearing in failed subjects during model tests and internal examinations.
In a press release, the union stated that it had received reports that some institutions were collecting amounts ranging from INR 2,000 to INR 5,000 per subject for re-examinations, with the fees reportedly refundable only upon successful clearance of the subject.
According to the DNSU, the institutions concerned have justified the charges as a deterrent to academic complacency and a means to instil seriousness among students.

While acknowledging that schools may levy nominal re-examination fees to cover administrative costs, the union maintained that such charges must remain reasonable and should not place undue financial pressure on parents and guardians.
“Academic discipline is important, but motivating students should not come at the cost of imposing a financial burden on families,” the union stated, adding that improvement in academic performance should be fostered through constructive and student-friendly measures rather than monetary penalties.
Appealing to all institutions concerned to review and rationalise their fee structures, the DNSU urged the adoption of fair and transparent practices.
