The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union calls out the delay in the Nirmal Jain land fraud investigation and demanded action.
DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed concern over the alleged lack of progress in the investigation against Nirmal Jain in connection with alleged fraudulent land transactions and demanded action from the government and investigating agencies.
In a press release, DNSU stated that although Jain’s Indigenous Certificate was cancelled after it was found to have been fraudulently obtained, lands allegedly acquired using the certificate have neither been seized nor subjected to any visible legal scrutiny.
It also claimed that there has been no public indication of an investigation into alleged benami land transactions or the wider network behind the alleged illegal land business.
According to DNSU, more than two months have passed since a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged, but no charge sheet or public update has been issued.
The union stated that documents relating to alleged forgery, fraud, criminal conspiracy, cheating and illegal procurement and use of government documents for land transactions were already in the public domain.
DNSU maintained that its movement was not directed against any individual, politician, bureaucrat, police officer, political party, business community, civil society organisation, NGO, union, faction or community but concerned the protection of Naga land, Indigenous rights and implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
It also referred to Article 371(A) of the Constitution and said the protection of land, identity and rights was a responsibility shared by all sections of society.

“During the previous incident involving Girdharlal Sharma and Sanjay Sharma, DNSU faced widespread criticism for allegedly taking the law into its own hands after the authorities failed to act. Yet, to this day, no visible action has been taken despite serious allegations,” the union claimed.
The union called upon the government, investigating agencies and other competent authorities to discharge their constitutional and legal responsibilities without fear or favour, stating that no individual should be above the law irrespective of wealth, influence or political connections.
DNSU warned that should the authorities continue to remain inactive, it would pursue its own course of action to safeguard the land, rights and future of the Naga people and expose individuals allegedly involved in such activities.
