DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) sanitation workers have abstained from work since Thursday in protest against the non-payment of their salaries for the past three months, as well as the pending Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) contributions.
On December 4, sanitation staff submitted a memorandum to the DMC chairman regarding the non-payment of salaries from August to November, warning that they would cease work if their dues were not cleared by December 10. In response, DMC released one month’s salary for August on December 9, while the remaining three months were still pending.
Representatives of the sanitation workers have reiterated that they would not resume their duties until all outstanding salaries and EPF contributions are fully cleared, asserting their stance on “No pay, no work.”

During the protest, it was informed that DMC has proposed a partial settlement, assuring that one additional month’s salary would be released today and another by December 20.
The workers, however, rejected the offer and insisted that all three months’ pending salaries should be cleared in full before they return to work.
