Dimapur, MAY 14: The wet run of liquor across the dry state of Nagaland continues although a trickle of the river does at times find themselves in the arms of Dimapur and Kohima police personnel. Likewise the roll of cannabis, a contraband common with smugglers, is also being smoked out from vehicles.
The enforcement authorities of the two districts have confiscated a substantial amount of cannabis besides a consignment of considerable size during the week.
Dimapur and Kohima police issued separate press releases on Saturday informing about their catch.
Excise personnel of Kohima district at the Peducha check gate have seized approximately 140 kilograms of ganja on May 12 last. The coutraband was seized from a Santro, a Xing, the enforcement division said. The car bore the registration number NL0C 0425.
According to excise department, the catch came after a “hot chase” in the areas around Piphema, a travelers’ pit stop.
“The driver Zhrapau Poumai 47 years was the lone occupant and was arrested for violation of NDPS Act 85. The accused and the conveyance used in trafficking have been forwarded to judicial custody for further investigation. The seizure was made under the command of AIE Vipral,” the press release stated.
On May 12 again, the Dimapur police seized approximately 950 cases of assorted Indian made foreign the worth of which the police said was several lakh in the market. Personnel of Diphupar Police Station led by IPS probationer Vrinda Shukla intercepted a truck transporting the consignment from Chumukedima, the police said.
“The seized truck was also found with fake registrations and the driver arrested was identified as one Ranjit Chetri S/o Dhan Bahadur Chetri. A case is under investigation at the Diphupar Police Station,” the Dimapur police said.
Dimapur police appeals
The Dimapur Police has inform “those who are victims of online frauds and cheating, especially connected to similar cases for which recent arrests were made from outside the state,” to come forward and report to the East Police Station. The Dimapur police issued a note on Saturday to state the appeal. “The police believe that there are more victims from within the state whose cases are unreported,” it stated. The district’s police had recently arrested four persons from the mainland on charges of online fraud.
