
DIMAPUR — Following reports on the outbreak of vector borne diseases in Nagaland with Dimapur district being the hotspot, a review meeting on malaria, dengue, Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and Chikungunya was held on Wednesday in the conference hall of the chief medical officer (CMO) in Dimapur.
A press release issued by Dr. A Kavito Zhimomi, DPO CD-I/ DSO, stated that a brief note was delivered by Dr. Neisakho Kire, SPO and joint director of NVBDCP, Nagaland. Dr. Kire has stressed on the important role of the public in controlling the spread of vector borne diseases.
He has advised the public to protect themselves by ensuring removal of stagnant water and to keep their surroundings clean and dry, use insecticide treated nets, mosquito repellants, wear full sleeves and long pants and cover all water containers and tanks as well as ensure that there are no stagnant water collected in old tyres or flower pots and also get tested for malaria, dengue and JE in case of fever, headache.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]He further emphasised on the importance of source reduction by observing dry day at least once a week to ensure there is no breeding ground for mosquito larvae.
The programme was chaired by Dr. A Kavito Zhimomi. The other officials present in the meeting included Dr. Temsu, consultant of sentinel site; Dr. Molung Jamir, epidemiologist; state consultants, district consultants and MTS.
Meanwhile, it informed that an awareness campaign is being conducted in villages, wards and colonies along with house-to-house visitation to check any fever cases. It added that entomological surveys are also being conducted along with fogging at high risk areas.
