Dimapur, March 3 (EMN): Dr. Yanbo Kithan, ZLO Dimapur has informed that Dimapur District being a commercial hub and the gate-way of the State has the highest leprosy patients and new leprosy case detection in the State.
He mentioned this during the observance programme of Anti-Leprosy Day on March 2, at Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall, Dimapur for conducting “Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign” in Dimapur.
Although Nagland happened to be the first State in the country to have achieved Leprosy Eliminated State in the year 1998, Dr. Yanbo Kithan said due to the fact that there were numbers of migrant population, the prevalence rate of leprosy in Dimapur district has now increased above the eliminated rate i.e. 1/10,000 population. He stated that for this reason, among 163 districts covering 20 states in the country, Dimapur district has been short-listed for conducting Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) with Control Room at Urban Leprosy Clinic Dimapur under NLEP.Dr. Yanbo further informed general public that any skin patches with sensory loss may contact Urban Leprosy Clinic under Chief Medical Officer Dimapur for free check-up and treatment.
During the programme, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome, IAS, along with participants took the Anti-Leprosy pledge, to work together and fulfil the dream of Mahatma Gandhi to create Leprosy free India in future. DC also urged upon all to give their best effort to conduct mass awareness on Anti-Leprosy campaign and identify suspected cases at war-footing step in order to eradicate leprosy.
