Dimapur Government College celebrates 59th foundation day-cum-felicitation programme.

DIMAPUR — Dimapur Government College (DGC) on Friday celebrated its 59th foundation day-cum-felicitation programme at the college auditorium with Dr. SC Jamir, former chief minister of Nagaland and former Governor of Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Odisha, as the special guest.
An update from the college stated that distribution of academic awards comprising of citations and cash awards, which were presented to 12 University toppers across different disciplines from its college, was the highlight of the programme. Additionally, certificates of appreciation for special contributions were also presented to the graduating members of DGCSC, NCC (Boys), NCC (Girls) and NSS and certificates of appreciation and special achievements were awarded in sports, literary activities and performing and fine arts.
In his address, Dr. Jamir congratulated the college on the achievement of its 59th foundation day and urged the college to introspect and analyse on what could have been done on its way to progress. Commenting that reputation is the biggest strength, Jamir exhorted the college to reflect on its duty and responsibility towards further enhancing the image and reputation built over the last 59 years. He remarked that knowledge determines the academic muscle of a country.
Observing that so far ‘we have had only passive learning,’ he stressed the need to build learning tools and modify education system accordingly by harnessing technology. He also emphasised the need for teachers to update themselves with the changing times in the modern world.

Commenting that there is proliferation of knowledge all over the world, particularly in technological knowledge, he questioned if we are aligned to the many needs and challenges of our time. Noting that the best way to predict the future is to build it, he exhorted the audience to take care of the present of what is in our hands today, saying that the future would be taken care of.
With all the facilities and education Nagas have today, he questioned as to what kind of Nagaland we want to build. Stating that ‘isms’ have dwarfed Nagaland, he commented that we should get rid of the numerous ‘isms’ from the society.
Stating that young people of Nagaland have the capacity to compete, and should therefore, he encouraged them to compete with the rest of the country and the world. He further exhorted the young people to treat themselves as citizens of the world and of India, to pave the way for a better Nagaland, to be an instrument and an asset for the building of Naga future and to make Nagaland livable for every Naga where everyone would live without differences.
The programme was chaired by N Sentinungla Pongen, head of Philosophy department, while the welcome address was delivered by Dr. T Tiakaba Jamir, principal of DGC, and the college anthem was presented by NCC of DGC.
The invocation prayer was said by Dr. Vivi Swu, associate professor of History, while a song was presented by Jatmei Wangsa, BA 5th semester of History department, presentation of awards was led by Dr. Meripeni Ngullie, head of History department and convenor of Students’ Welfare Committee.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Hare Krushna Parhi, nodal officer of NEP 2020, DGC.
